The Professional Certification Program for PV(Solar) Associate identifies individuals with the knowledge of the fundamental principles of applying, designing, installing, and operating Photovoltaic systems. This program offers comprehensive education on the essential principles and practices of solar photovoltaic systems.

Program Overview:

Participants in the Professional Certification Program for PV(Solar) Associate Program will acquire comprehensive knowledge essential for solar energy professionals, organized into five core performance domains: Application, Sales and Economics, Design, Installation, and Operation and Maintenance.

  • Applications of PV systems: Knowledge of Grid Interactive and Standalone system, Solar-integrated products, Economic benefits, Reliability of performance, Structural attachments, Balance of system components and Environmental impact.
  • Sales and Economics: Learn to explain clients about Energy independence, Environmental concerns, Technology, General system sizing, Demand charges, Customer usage profile, Warranty limitations, Maintenance costs.
  • Design: Comprehend PV system configuration, Load analysis, Software sizing tools, Electrical Material and point of interconnections in PV design, Grounding and bonding elements, Rooftop conditions etc.
  • Installation: Develop skills in Site plan and array layout plan, Use of Common power and hand tools, reading Electrical diagrams, Permit documents, racking systems selection, Commissioning of inverters, optimizers, charge controllers, disconnects, switchgears and cables, Learning of Codes and standards (CEC, NEC, IEEE).
  • Maintenance and Operations: Acquire knowledge of routine maintenance tasks for PV systems. Understand operational considerations such as monitoring system performance and troubleshooting common issues.
  • Professional Practices: Learn about ethical considerations, customer communication skills, and the importance of professional conduct in the PV industry.
  • Preparation for NABCEP PV Associate Exam: Prepare for the NABCEP PV Associate exam by mastering the content areas outlined in the exam specifications, ensuring readiness to demonstrate understanding and competency in PV technology.

This program is approved by The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) and the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training for approval.

Length of the Program:
The duration of our program spans one week, encompassing a total of 40 hours of comprehensive instruction and hands-on training. This condensed time frame ensures that students receive a focused and intensive educational experience, preparing them effectively for their chosen career paths within the renewable energy industry.

Students will learn the following topics related to Professional Certification Program for PV(Solar) Associate Program: 

  1. Tools and Equipment
    • The course provides detailed instruction on the use of common power and hand tools, including drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, wire cutters, multimeters, and solar irradiance meters.
  2. Electrical Basics and Code References
    1. This program covers fundamental electrical principles such as circuits, voltage, current, and resistance. It also includes references to National Electrical Code (NEC) standards, crucial for safe and compliant electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
  3. Solar Technology Overview
    1. In this topic, students will discover how photovoltaic (PV) cells convert sunlight into electricity, generating direct current (DC) which is converted to usable alternating current (AC) by inverters. Also, learn about how solar energy reduces reliance on fossil fuels, promoting environmental sustainability.

    1. Students will explore the implementation of energy storage solutions, including off-grid battery banks, conducting load assessments, determining days of autonomy, and ensuring proper wiring techniques for optimal system performance.

The course also emphasizes professional practices, including ethical considerations, customer communication skills, and the importance of professional conduct in the PV industry.
  7. Safety Procedures on Solar Job Sites
    1. Understand essential safety protocols for solar job sites, including hazard identification and best practices to mitigate risks and ensure a secure working environment.
